[ARCHIVED] Reusable Foodware Ordinance Discussion with the Town Council - 7/18

Reusable Foodware_Newsflash Template

On February 21, 2023, the Corte Madera Town Council received a presentation (video here) on the County of Marin’s model Reusable Foodware Ordinance, which requires that all food facility vendors use reusable foodware for dine-in operations and compostable foodware for take-out services. Following discussion, Council directed staff to continue research and outreach, and return to Council at a later date with policy and implementation options to consider based on the comments and feedback provided during discussion.

The Town Council is scheduled to discuss options for a possible Reusable Foodware Ordinance, or modified ordinance, at its Tuesday, July 18, 2023 meeting, which will begin at 6:30pm in the Town Council Chambers located at 240 Tamal Vista Blvd., Suite 108, Corte Madera.

After receiving an update from staff, the Town Council may consider placing a Town reusable foodware ordinance on a future agenda for possible introduction. Options that the Council will consider include: (1) Follow state law only and encourage education and compliance without adoption of Town ordinance; (2) Adopt County model ordinance and contract with County Environmental Health Services to enforce both State law and Town/County ordinance; and (3) Modify County model ordinance to reflect commentary received from businesses and Town Council at the February 21 meeting.
