[ARCHIVED] Planning Commission Public Hearing Related to Senate Bill 9 -10/25

Housing Blue House

Senate Bill (SB) 9 became effective on January 1, 2022. The most significant component of this bill is that it allows homeowners in the state within single-family residential zoning districts to build up to two housing units on their existing lot or to legally split their single-family lot into two separate parcels and add up to two units on each parcel.
The Town Council previously adopted an Urgency Ordinance that established regulations for the subdivision and development of qualified SB 9 lot split applications and housing development projects. The Urgency Ordinance adopted by the Town Council to regulate SB 9 projects is set to expire on January 17, 2023.

The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on a proposed ordinance to establish permanent regulations for the subdivision and development of qualified SB 9 projects. The amendments establish a ministerial review process and development standards for qualified urban lot split applications and housing projects submitted to the Town pursuant to SB 9.

A subsequent public hearing will be held before the Town Council and will be duly noticed in advance of the meeting.
