Lagoon Maintenance Reminders

Lagoon Maintenance Reminders_Newsflash Size

Dear Lagoon Residents,

As you may know, Public Works routinely conducts a Fall and Spring Maintenance Period that lowers the lagoon water for a week to give our crews time to complete repairs and maintenance on Town facilities. This also serves as an opportunity for property owners to perform any necessary private dock maintenance while the water levels are low.

The Fall Maintenance period is scheduled as usual to begin the third Sunday of October, for one week, Sunday 10/16/2022 through Sunday 10/23/2022.  If you plan to perform work please be advised of the following conditions:

  • The property owner or contractor is responsible for obtaining the permits necessary for any repair that include changing or replacement of any dock or deck materials. Plans will need to be submitted for review and approval prior to permits being issued. Maintenance that only involves painting or staining is exempt from permits. For more information please visit our Town’s Lagoon & Waterway Maintenance webpage.
  • When is the water lowered?  The lagoon water will start to be lowered on the usual flush cycle starting Wednesday 10/12/2022, so that levels are at their lowest by Sunday 10/16/2022.
  • When is the water filled?  All dock work should be complete by end of day Sunday 10/23/2022, lagoons will begin to fill (double-flush) on Monday 10/24/2022 and refill to the appropriate seasonal level on Thursday 10/27/2022.

Your maintenance must be completed by the end of day Sunday 10/23/2022 so that we can refill the lagoons. Given recent feedback from many of the lagoon residents, the Town has been urged to not extend this maintenance period should a private dock project not be completed prior to this date over concerns over algae growth that could be exacerbated if the lagoons are not flushed as planned. If you plan to perform work on your dock it is important that you and your contractor plan ahead so that your project is completed on time.

Also, if any of your neighbors would like to be added to this email group please have them contact to provide their information.
