[ARCHIVED] Drought Compromises Trees at Town Park- Update

Stone Pine Tree Town Park

Drought conditions continue to have a negative impact on the Town landscaping and has seriously compromised the life of several trees at Town Park.  Due to visual indicators that some trees at Town Park are dying and/or have died, the Town proactively engaged the services of an arborist to evaluate the failing trees on the west side of Town Park.  The conclusions in the arborist’s report and the recommendations therein are significant with over ten trees being recommended for removal.  The arborist has cited drought conditions and water conservation as the predominant stress factors.

Our public works team has been working our arborist to identify those trees that pose an immediate safety hazard.  The Town's arborist has identified two, low hanging, Stone Pine Trees near the intersection of  Tamalpais Drive and Pixley Avenue that pose an immediate safety hazard.  In an effort to eliminate the safety hazard, the Town has engaged the services of a tree removal service to remove the two unsafe Stone Pine Trees.  These two Stone Pine trees are slated for emergency removal which may occur as soon as tomorrow, Tuesday, October 5, 2021, or as soon as reasonably possible.  Our public works team is still evaluating the fate of the remaining compromised/dead trees, and will update the community when we have additional updates or have removed all the hazards.
